How to check Powershare support in your car
- Make sure the vehicle is on software version 2026.32.6 or later.
- Tap the vehicle icon in the bottom-left corner of the touchscreen.
- Tap 'Software'.
- Tap 'Additional Vehicle Information'.
- Look for 'Powershare Support: Enabled'.
If the field says “Enabled”, the car is capable. For cars produced before October 1, 2026, Tesla only says that “some, but not all” are capable, so this in-car check is the only reliable answer.
What Powershare Home Backup needs
- A Powershare-capable Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck.
- Powerwall 3 (Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ support is coming). Cybertruck can also use a Powershare Gateway without Powerwall.
- Wall Connector 3 or Universal Wall Connector.
- Connect Powerwall and the Wall Connector to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Register both to the same site and pair them.
- Contact Tesla Customer Support to enable Powershare.
Once it's set up, the car supplies up to 11.52 kW continuous at 240 V. Estimate how long it can run your home.

All Model 3 and Model Y vehicles ordered in the U.S. and Puerto Rico after October 1, 2026 are capable. Some, but not all, vehicles produced before October 1, 2026 are also capable.
The FAQ says 'ordered on October 1, 2026 or later' while the footnote says 'after October 1, 2026'. Orders placed on October 1 are treated as eligible but still need confirmation in the vehicle.
Powerwall 3 is compatible today. Tesla says Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ support is coming via over-the-air update.
Without Powerwall, installation typically ranges from about $2,000 to $4,000; hardware typically costs $1,950 and can be less with existing equipment.
13.5 kWh, 5 kW continuous, 7 kW peak backup, 106 A LRA motor start. Powershare support listed as coming soon.
Backup power 9.6 kW / 7 kW continuous (with / without solar), 118 A LRA motor start; the lower figure is stored here. Powershare support listed as coming soon.
Frequently asked questions
Does my Model Y have Powershare?
Every Model Y ordered in the U.S. or Puerto Rico on or after October 1, 2026 is Powershare-capable. Some, but not all, earlier cars are too. To be sure, update to software 2026.32.6 or later and look for "Powershare Support: Enabled" under Software › Additional Vehicle Information.
Does my Model 3 have Powershare?
The same rules apply as for Model Y: all U.S. and Puerto Rico orders on or after October 1, 2026, and some earlier cars. The in-car "Powershare Support" field is the definitive answer.
What equipment do I need for Powershare Home Backup?
For Model 3 and Model Y: Powerwall 3 and either a Wall Connector 3 or a Universal Wall Connector, on the same Wi-Fi network, registered to the same site and paired. Then contact Tesla Customer Support to enable Powershare. If you already have that equipment, nothing else is needed.
Does Powershare work with Powerwall 2 or Powerwall+?
Not yet. Tesla says support for Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ is coming by over-the-air update. Powerwall 3 works today.
Is Powershare available outside the United States?
For Model 3 and Model Y, Tesla has announced Powershare Home Backup for vehicles ordered in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Cybertruck Powershare is available on all Cybertrucks.
Can Model 3 or Model Y sell power back to the grid?
No. Tesla says Powershare Grid Support is currently available for Cybertruck in limited markets and not for Model 3 or Model Y.
